Young People and Democracy

The East Area Forum for young people was set up in 2005 by Hendon Youth Initiative and Sunderland Council Youth Development Group who worked in partnership with Back on the Map. Unfortunately due to a range of factors, including readiness of young people to be involved in a forum and staff changes this has slipped. It is the intention of this project to assist HYI in re-instating the youth forum so that young people are able to influence decisions at both operational and strategic level. This project will work with young people from the area around issues of democracy and participation. It will enable them to engage in arena's where they can impact on decisions that affect them. This project will work with Michael Mordey who is a resident board member for BotM, a local councillor and assistant to Chris Mullin MP. This will engage young people in the democratic decision-making process.
