Spice Up Your Business With a Curry!

  • 26/06/2008

Business and curry are on the menu at a Sunderland city-centre Indian restaurant as part of plans to boost enterprise across Hendon and the East End.

Sunderland enterprise agency SES is holding the first in a series of get-togethers for local businesses from the Hendon and East End areas of the city who want to find out more about the free help available to help them grow.

Businesses ranging from building companies to keep-fit organisations will sit down for a curry and a drink at the Naz restaurant in St Thomas Street, as they put forward their views and hear about new assistance on offer to local firms.

The event is open to businesses based in the area covered by the Back on theMap regeneration programme, which includes Hendon, the East End, parts of Sunniside in the city centre and the areas bordering Grangetown.

Back on the Map, the New Deal for Communities regeneration programme for Hendon and the East End in Sunderland, is investing over £1 million into a project to boost new businesses starting up in the area and to help existing ones grow.

Hendon-based business support agency SES is running the enterprise project and organised the curry night to find out in an informal setting what would help businesses develop quickly.

To help people take those first crucial steps in making their business dream a reality or to assist existing firms with growth plans SES has a dedicated team of enterprise workers operating across Hendon and East End.

The free support they offer covers everything from help in handling the financial side of running a business and writing a business plan to legal support and advice on winning new customers.

Linda Rutter, campaign project manager for SES, said: "Rather than dictate to people what we think will help them, we want businesses to tell us what they want to help them develop and grow.

"We hope this first informal get together will encourage more businesses to come and find out what support is available and help us shape our plans.  There are already plans to publish a directory of businesses in the area to encourage inter-trading and talk of a new networking group or club for firms interested in stimulating more work for themselves."

The event is set to take place from 5.30pm to 8pm on Tuesday, July 1st at Naz restaurant in St Thomas Street.  Attendance must be confirmed in advance by contacting SES on 565 0476.
