The Contact Your Future Project is built upon the previous projects funded through SRB IV and Back on the Map between September 1999 and June 2002, and the current project funded by the NDC from August 2006.
This project is popular with local people and successful in achieving targets of people into employment and achieving qualifications. The evaluation by Primetrics (Dec 07) identified it as ‘meeting targets and successfully moving its clients into employment'.
The Contact Your Future Project aims to integrate jobless residents from the "Back on the Map" area into sustainable employment through the Intermediate Labour Market (ILM) approach. The main aim of the Intermediate Labour Market (ILM) is to give those who are furthest from the labour market a "Bridge back to the world of work". It is about improving the participant's general employability. This involves targeting the long-term unemployed or people with other labour market disadvantages. The core feature is "Paid work on a temporary contract" together with training, personal development and job search activities. The provision of a wage is an essential ingredient (to help recruitment, retention and progression).
