Community Policing Team

This project was designed not only to reduce crime and disorder, but also the fear of crime and disorder in the Back on the Map area of Hendon and the East End of Sunderland. The project was funded for 3 years and involved the joint funding of Back on the Map and Northumbria Police which allowed the employment of a dedicated community policing team specifically for the area. It meant that the area benefited from what can only be described as intensive policing when compared to other areas. The team was actually based within the Back on the Map area which meant they were easily accessible to the public. Particular emphasis was placed on high visibility patrols, particularly foot patrols and the accessibility of the team and individual officers to the community. The team have subsequently been made part of mainstream service provision to the area by Northumbria Police.
