There have been two major community consultation exercises for the People's Fund, to look at the priorities that the fund should address.
Both consultations used Participatory Budgeting principles to establish which areas were the highest priority and allocate a proportion of the funding to each area. The community engagement team supported the steering group to undertake the consultation.
Votes | % | Total for each priority | |
| Healthier Lifestyles | 275 | 16 | £3,200 |
| Celebrating Life in the East End and Hendon | 197 | 12 | £2,400 |
| Provision for Ethnic Minority | 260 | 16 | £3,200 |
| Provision for Young People | 379 | 23 | £4,600 |
| Provision for Older People | 303 | 18 | £3,600 |
| Small Grants | 253 | 15 | £3,000 |
| Total | 1667 | 100% | £20K |
Members of the public were asked to identify the areas they would like the project to tackle. Using a combination of Back on the Map's aims and the experience and local knowledge of people on the steering group, a comprehensive list of the key priority areas was established. The residents were then asked to rank these in order of importance, which allowed us to develop the budget matrix showing how much should be allocated to each area.
The first consultation gave a list of six priorities, spread over the three geographical areas of Middle Hendon, South Hendon and the East End.
The second consultation generated a new list of priorities, and residents also decided that the fund should cover the whole area rather than be broken into the three sub areas.
The six priorities:
The matrix above shows the breakdown of funds corresponding to the importance placed on each of the six categories.
Something else which emerged from the consultation was the name - the People's Fund was the people's choice for the project.
